Glass Fusing
Glass Fusing Sessions
What is Glass Fusing?
Glass fusing is the process of taking pieces of glass and laying them out in custom shapes and designs. The glass can be sheets of glass, long thin strips, glass stringers (kinda like glass spaghetti), triangular shapes or whatever shape you want.
Cutting Glass
The student learns how to safely cut glass and is introduced to all the tools used in this type of glass art. Tools that are used include glass cutters, cutting oil, running pliers, breaking pliers, etc. We go over how to snap the glass to get a clean and consistent break.
For advanced students, we learn how to cut more complicated shapes with the glass. This includes inside curves, outside curves, and circles.
Important: We are cutting and breaking glass here and we do take every precaution possible to keep everyone safe in The Fusing Shop. We realize that accidents can happen no matter how careful you are and we do have students sign a waiver before starting any type of glass work.
Types of Glass for Fusing
Students choose what color glass they are going to use and are able to experiment with different layouts to fit their artistic desire. The layouts are then put into a kiln and fused together to make one solid piece of artwork. The possibilities are endless for what you can make with fused glass.
