So let's jump in!

What is a Glass Dab Rig?

A dab rig is a specialized device used to vaporize waxes like shatter, butane hash oil (BHO), rosin, and crumble. It has become an increasingly popular way to consume tobacco due to its efficiency, flavor, and power high that you get.

Overview of A Glass Dab Rig

Heating a quartz banger with a butane torch

If you're someone who's partial to dabbing, you might be on the lookout for ways to elevate your experience to the next level. You might have tried different types of concentrates and read up on the latest vaporizers, but have you considered getting yourself a glass dab rig? A dab rig is essentially a modified bong that's specifically designed for dabbing.

It works by heating a nail (usually made of quartz, titanium, or ceramic) with a torch, and using that to vaporize the concentrate which is then inhaled through the rig mouthpiece. Not only does a dab rig give you a more potent hit, but it also enhances the flavor of the concentrate.

Materials used in crafting the product

The Fusing Shop's mini and micro dab rigs are made from the highest quality borosilicate glass. We use Simex glass which provides a durable product and has a shine to it that makes the dab rig look super slick.

Our mini dab rig is designed with convenience and portability in mind. We know that you don't want to lug a desktop rig with you. You want to be able to smoke where and when the feeling hits you. Our rigs and smoking accessories are compact without compromising on the smoking experience.

Mini Dab Rig - Design features and how it functions

Dab rigs are made of multiple pieces. Each of the piece has a name and it's important to be familiar with them, especially when dealing with glassblowers like myself. Also, it makes you a wiser person and who doesn't like to feel wiser?

The Percolator

The percolator or perc for shot is where the vapor enters the water chamber. The perc has holes in it to allow the smoke to go through into The Can section. The more holes a perc has, the more bubbles you get which enhances the flavor of your dabs and gives you smoother hits.

The Can

The can section of glass dab rigs is where the water is held. Cans come in many different shapes and sizes.

Mouthpiece

This is where the magic happens. Your luscious lips go on the mouthpiece and you inhale the sweet dab rig vapor.

Banger Hanger

This is where you put your nail or banger. You can also use a slide or bowl if you want to smoke some ground up tobacco.

Downstem

The downstem is what carries the smoke into the percolator and into the can. Downstems come in many shapes and layouts but they all function the same way. Having a fancy downstem may lookstylish, but it won't enhance the functionality of the dab rig.

Tools Needed For Glass Dab Rigs

Glass Rig

The dab rig is the heart of your setup.

Dab Torch

A butane torch is used to heat the nails or bangers. You cannot use a lighter with a dab rig because you need to get the banger to the correct temperature or the dabs will not vaporize. If the banger is too cool, your concentrate oil will ooze in the chamber and make a sticky mess.

Banger or Nail (preferably quartz)

For the optimal dabbing experience using a quartz nail or banger is best. The banger is where you place your concentrate. Some bangers have carb caps so you don't lose any vapor but they are not necessary.

The banger goes into the banger hanger and the joint sizes are 10mm and 14mm. They do make 19mm joints but they are not so common.

Dabber

A dabber is an essential tool for dab rigs of any size, even micro dab rigs. Concentrates can be super sticky and they do not wash off easily. Having a tool on hand to pick up and place the concentrate onto the banger saves you from having to use your finger.

Alcohol & Q-Tips for cleaning

Keeping your rig clean is essential. Oils and soot will build up on the banger and inside your mini dab rig. This build up will effect the taste of your hits so clean your glass often for the best experience.

Dab Rig Vs Bongs

Dab rigs and bongs are both great smoking devices, but there are some differences between the two. The main difference is that dab rigs use concentrates as opposed to dried tobacco, which is used in a bong.

Additionally, dab rigs use a much higher temperature than bongs, and this affects the taste of your smoke or vapor. Dab rigs create a more flavorful experience because the high heat vaporizes the dried plant which enhances the flavor of the concentrate. This creates an improved taste compared to smoking tobacco.

Finally, dab rigs are typically smaller and more portable than bongs due to their smaller size. This makes them ideal for on-the-go smokers who don't want to lug around a bulky bong.

Overall, both dab rigs and bongs offer some great smoking experiences, but there are some key differences between the two. By understanding these differences, you can make an informed decision and pick the device that's right for you.
